Abstract
In the female genital tract, malignant mixed mullerian tumors(MMMT) of the uterus are very aggresive and rare tumors. A retrospective study of 13 patients with MMMT were analyzed clinically and pathologically.
@ES The results were as follows;
@EN 1. The patient's ages ranged from 21 to 71 years old with an median age of 54 years old. Eleven women(84.6%) were postmenopausal. Six patients (46.1%) had documented previous pelvic irradiation, which had been administered due to the uterine
cervical carcinoma. The latent interval between the initial irradiation and the diagnosis of the MMMT is known in all cases and ranged from five to sixteen years(average nine years.)
2. Vaginal bleeding(69.2%) was the most frequent presenting symptom. Other symptoms included abdominal mass(30.8%), pelvic pain(23.1%), vaginal discharge(15.4%), uterine prolapse(7.7%). Pelvic mass (69.2%) was the most frequent physical finding,
followed by a polypoid mass protruding from the cervix(23.1%). Papanicolaou smears suggested malignancy in 5 of the 13 reported cases(38.5%).
3. The patients were staged clinically as follows: four stage I (30.8%), five stage II (38.5%), one stage III(7.7%), two stage IV(15.4%), one undetemined stage(7.7%).
4. Type I or II hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and bilateral pelvic lymph node dissection were performed in eight cases (61.5%). Postoperative adjuvant radiation and chemotherapy was administered in 3 cases( 23.1%).
Postoperative
chemotherapy alone was administered in 2 cases(15.4%). One patient received radiation therapy alone, chemotherapy alone, and radiation and chemotherapy, respectively. Two patients refused management after diagnosis of MMMT.
5. The median survival duration of the entire group was 6 months.
